Prized LSU women's basketball 2024 recruit Joyce Edwards commits to South Carolina

Consensus top two women's basketball recruit Joyce Edwards committed to South Carolina and Dawn Staley Wednesday afternoon, announcing her choice live on ESPN at a ceremony at Camden High School (South Carolina).

Kim Mulkey and her LSU women's basketball staff heavily recruited Edwards, a five star prospect, but they missed on one of their top class of 2024 targets. Ultimately, it was too much for the Tigers to beat out the Gamecocks and Edwards' home state team.

The versatile 6-2 forward had LSU and Clemson in her final three and held offers from all other major programs in women's college basketball.

Edwards is rated a five-star prospect across the board. She's the reigning Gatorade Player of the Year in South Carolina and led Camden to the state championship last season as she averaged 28 points and 13.6 rebounds per game.

Post play is Mulkey's forte and Edwards perfectly fits the mold that the longtime coach looks for. Edwards can efficiently score and rebound and her footwork is already at a college-ready level.

Lafayette Christian star point guard and the top recruit in Louisiana in 2024, Jada Richard signed with the Tigers on the first day of the early signing period last week and as of today, remains the lone signee in the class.

LSU is still in the running for the top ranked 2024 recruit in forward Sarah Strong and No. 3 prospect in guard Jaloni Cambride, who most recently took an official visit to Baton Rouge last week.
