Separate E.Coli recalls affect Louisiana residents. Here’s what you need to know
Two food products have been recalled due to E.coli.
Organic Walnuts sold through Whole Foods
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced Tuesday that a food safety alert has been issued for an outbreak of E. Coli linked to organic walnuts.
Louisiana is one of the 19 states that distributed these walnuts to natural food and co-op.
Gibson Farms, Inc. organic walnut halves and pieces have been recalled after 12 people from two different states became sick following consumption.
According to CDC, seven people have been hospitalized and two people have developed hemolytic uremic syndrome-- a condition that causes blood vessel damage and clots in the kidneys and other organs.
All sick people purchased the contaminated food from bulk bins.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration reported that Gibson Farms, Inc. has recalled this product.
To ensure your safety, do these following tips:
- Check your expiration dates. These walnuts have expiration dates between May 21, 2025, and June 7, 2025.
- Ask the store where you purchased your walnuts if they sold recalled walnuts.
Only two stores in Louisiana received possibly contaminated walnuts, Whole Foods Market, Metairie, Louisiana and New Orleans Food, New Orleans, Louisiana. To see the full list of stores who may have received these walnuts, visit www.fda.gov.
Ground Beef
The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Wednesday that approximately 16,000 pounds of raw ground beef products may have been contaminated with E. Coli.
Items were shipped to Walmart retail locations nationwide.
Cargill Meat Solutions recalled the items after they identified that segregated products had been inadvertently utilized in the production of ground beef.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, no confirmed illnesses have been reported.

Which ground beef products were recalled?
The raw ground beef items were produced April 26 through April 27, 2024.
Here is a list of the items recalled (provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture):
- 2.25-lbs. plastic-wrapped trays containing "93% LEAN 7% FAT ALL NATURAL LEAN GROUND BEEF" with lot code 117 and establishment number "EST. 86P" printed on the back of the label.
- 1.33-lbs. plastic-wrapped trays containing four "PRIME RIB BEEF STEAK BURGERS PATTIES" with lot code 118 and establishment number "EST. 86P" printed on the back of the label.
- 2.25-lbs. plastic-wrapped trays containing "85% LEAN 15% FAT ALL NATURAL ANGUS PREMIUM GROUND BEEF" with lot code 117 and establishment number "EST. 86P" printed on the back of the label.
- 2.25-lbs. plastic-wrapped trays containing "80% LEAN 20% FAT ALL NATURAL GROUND BEEF CHUCK" with lot code 118 and establishment number "EST. 86P" printed on the back of the label.
- 1.33-lbs. plastic-wrapped trays containing four "80% LEAN 20% FAT ALL NATURAL GROUND BEEF CHUCK PATTIES" with lot code 118 and establishment number "EST. 86P" printed on the back of the label.
- 1.33-lbs. plastic-wrapped trays containing four "90% LEAN 10% FAT ALL NATURAL GROUND BEEF SIRLOIN PATTIES" with lot code 118 and establishment number "EST. 86P" printed on the back of the label.
Consumers who purchased these products are being urged to not consume the products and throw them away.
Symptoms of E. Coli
According to CDC, most people infected with E. Coli experience severe stomach cramps, diarrhea (often bloody) and vomiting. Symptoms usually start three to four days after swallowing the bacteria.
Most people recover without treatment after five to seven days.
